New England NSW - Armidale
Other Activities Around Armidale
There are many things to do around Armidale township and environs itself including some of the following:
- Visit a museum - there are 3, I would recommend; NERAM (New England Regional Art Museum), the Armidale Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place, both in Kentucky St, and the Armidale Folk Museum (just up from the post office). Ask at the Visitor Information Centre for more details and a map.
- The Visitor Information Centre organises trolley tours of all the places of interest in Armidale including NERAM, the train station and the university. It is a very worthwhile tour which supports local industries as well as the tourist receiving local, credible information about the area.
- If going out to Long Point in Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, make sure you leave enough time to have a wander around the old mining village of Hillgrove
- If visiting Cathedral Rocks NP or Ebor, make sure you visit Ebor Falls. About 500 m from the bridge crossing of Guy Fawkes River on the Armidale side is a turn off to the left which goes out to several platforms and a short walk to view Ebor Falls which is actually in Guy Fawkes River National Park. These falls are outstanding, especially after good rains.
- The Autumn Festival
- Armidale Women's' Comedy Festival
- Wool Expo
- Armidale Show

The mighty Ebor Falls. The turnoff is just before the Guy Fawkes River Bridge on the Armidale side of Waterfall Way (aptly named).

Other National Parks to visit include:
- New England National Park (on the way to Cathedral Rock National Park)
- Dorrigo National Park
- Guy Fawkes River National Park (check with Dorrigo NP office about road conditions first if you don't have a 4WD - drive slowly as the road often has rocks on it which can rip your tyres!)
Other Activities
- Horseriding (check with the Visitor Information Centre)
- Fishing - you will need a fishing licence, but the trout is pretty good (You may also want to taste some locally prepared trout from Guyra or Ebor available in some food stores in Armidale). Consult the staff at Armidale Outdoors staff for advice - it's in Rusden St.
- Photography - the landscape images are great! You can also follow other themes such as farms (old sheds are available from the roadside), flowers, insects, gum and rock patterns. There is also a great variety of reptiles in the area.
